Family Department
Duncan qualified in 1979 and subsequently handled a mixture of work including criminal law, civil litigation and Wills. However, his main focus was always family law and he joined Knowles Benning in 2006 as a family law specialist.
His work includes divorces, separation, financial settlements including property, child residence, contact, and parental responsibility. He advises on similar children and property issues for unmarried couples. He can prepare pre-nuptial (pre-marital) agreements or separation agreements where appropriate. He also obtains injunctions to prevent domestic abuse in family situations.
Duncan is very aware of the needs of clients to understand the processes, put the childrens' welfare first, and to feel that they are in control as much as possible. He is a good listener and communicator, approachable and caring. Parents also appreciate Duncan’s child-friendly approach.
Duncan is on a specialist panel of Resolution (formerly the Solicitors Family Law Association) – an organisation which promotes a non-confrontational approach to divorce.
